Ken and Sue Vissers

Canada

Ken started his career as a high school science teacher, and Sue as an occupational therapist working in mental health. They have three adult children: Josh, Hannah and Theo. Their journey with LAM began with missiology studies at All Nations Christian College in the UK. Following this they developed “La Cumbre”, a Christian youth camp in the dramatic cloud forests of central Costa Rica. After a sabbatical year of studies for Ken at Edinburgh University they transitioned to Honduras to develop “Cerro de Luz”, a Scripture Union youth camp. This camp, though situated in a different context, shared the same goals as La Cumbre: to share the Gospel of Jesus with local youth, to offer a leadership program discipling young leaders to serve in their communities, and to make it self-sustainable.

Ken and Sue returned to Canada in 2014. Ken became the Director of IAWAH Christian ministries, a camp that needed re-visioning and restructuring. Sue took a position with LAM to
develop the short-term program and on-boarding of long-term missionaries. God then opened up a new call – to the development of the member care program in LAM. Sue embarked on an MA in member care through Redcliffe College in 2018 which has been instrumental in the development of this call.

LAM’s member care’s objective is to strive towards improving the well-being of our missionaries through the ongoing development of a pro-active, preventative, holistic and educational program. This program seeks to encourage each missionary to keep growing their personal relationship with God; To enhance the growth and health of all aspects of their well- being (spiritual, physical, emotional, cognitive/creative, social/relational); And to facilitate the growth and health of their support network (church, core group, mentor, friends, and family). All in order that they may be fruitful, effective, resilient, purposeful, loving and Christ‐centred, as they seek to fulfil God’s call upon their lives.
